Never Fart In Front Of Your Personal Trainer And Other Weight Loss Advice

1. Never fart in front of your personal trainer

It can be very embarrassing to have to fart in front of anyone but even worse when you are working out at home and the two of you counting through the next set of exercises one, two, three, four, pdtpdtpdtpdtpdtpdtpdt…. not good!

Combat the need to fart by holding it in or having some loud music playing while you work out… that way you can both pretend you didn’t hear it… and when you get tired the music really does help to keep you going.

2. Never confess to eating Naan Bread or oven chips

weight loss temptations

Personal trainers have this holier than thou approach to you not doing as you are told so for goodness sake never confess to eating any carb laden food that will get you in trouble.

Weight loss with exercise needs nutrition to be solid in order to work - thinking you can workout and eat crap is just not on. You need to maintain the important rule of having half the plate full of veg then a quarter protein and carbs.

When you confess to eating junk your personal trainer will never forget and will haunt you with it for weeks…. “eat any naan bread this week…?” they will ask with piercing ready to pounce eyes. They then go ahead and give you more lunges or 10 minutes extra cardo to make up for it….. which leads me nicely into number three.

3. Never confess to anything being too easy

They will soon wipe that smug “is that all you got” look off your face if you confess to any of the exercises they give you being too easy to complete. Not only will you land yourself with more repetitions but you will also end up with a few extra exercises thrown in for good measure.

Of course that is not always a bad thing because if your exercises are too easy you will never challenge yourself and push yourself as far as you can – which means either your results will take longer or not happen at all.

4. Never tell them you can’t do anymore

Nothing gives a personal trainer more pleasure than starting again after counting to 9 out of a 10 repetition exercise! If you really feel as if you can’t do that final one just push through it and DO IT otherwise risk your personal trainer giving you that “well… if you are not going to do it we will have to start counting again….” look and starting again. They love the power!

Just tell yourself if you can push through a few more you are making yourself stronger. When I first started doing 10 repetitions of anything was a nightmare – especially leg and thigh exercises, but now I easily move through 20 (don’t tell my personal trainer I said easily )

5. Never tell them – can I give you the money next week

Come on now. These guys are brilliant and deserve to be paid for having to watch our fat sweaty arse jumping about for 60 minutes so do the right thing and pay them on time and what they are worth!

If you want to “borrow” my personal trainer (don’t be fooled by that soft angelic voice) you have to be lucky enough to live in the North London or North West London area. She has become a little busy since she put up all her videos and her blog a few months back and has a great newsletter called Fit Nut worth reading.

A healthy resting rate should beat at anything from 65-70 beats per minute (bpm) depending on your age

The fitter you are the lower your heart rate becomes and the less work your heart has to do to pump blood around your body, the less work it has to do the more efficient it becomes. We all know a constantly fast beating heart isn’t something you want to walk around with every day of your life because it is just not good for you.

So you can increase the efficiency of your heart by simply exercising and improving your resting heart rate.

What is a good resting heart beat to have?

Well that really depends on your age, other things like whether you are taking medication, suffer from anxiety and your gender. What follows next is for informational purposes only and is not medical advice. Please visit your doctor to get an accurate idea of how healthy your heart is based on the number of times it beats per minute.

As a rough guide for you to work towards

For Men aged 36-45 a poor resting heart rate is 83+ and an excellent healthy rate is 57-62 – at this stage you are physically fit

Men aged 36-45 should aim for a resting heart rate of between 55-66 bpm

For Women aged 36-45 a poor resting heart rate is 85+ and an excellent healthy rate is 60-64

Woman aged 36-45 should aim for a resting heart rate of between 62-66 bpm

How do I take my resting heart beat?

You can use your own fingers. The best place to take your heart beat is either on your wrist using the forefinger and middle finger only. Or the easiest place to find your pulse is on your neck just under your chin and towards your ear. Gently place them on your neck – you don’t have to push down – just place them there lightly.

Make sure you are completely rested (which is why first thing in the morning is best), place your fingers on your pulse and then have a clock or stop watch nearby which counts the 60 seconds for you.

If you are looking at taking on exercise your resting heart beat – along with your weight and body measurements – are all great ways to get an idea of the progress you are making and it is quick and easy to take in the morning.

It can also act as a great incentive if after exercising regularly for a couple of weeks you find that your heart rate has improved.

Modern day living puts too much strain and stress on our heart in general and one of the best ways I know to keep our heart healthy is through a balanced nutritious diet and exercise – but you probably knew that already. The question is when will you get started with yours?
